Greetings
bookworms! Over recent years, as I gradually begin to accept that my chances
of playing for any professional cricket team are vanishing quicker than Stan’s
win-pot. I have decided to investigate why (other than genuine lack of
ability and application) I never made the grade. Initially this
meant a swift browse through the sporting sections of Oxfordshire’s excellent
library service, partly funded by my substantial contributions on late

A fellow reader, accompanied by a friend, finds “FFTMCC – the Lester years” –
exhilarating stuff! * * * Why am I bothering? Three
basic reasons: 1) I always wanted my own review bar. 2) I have an
insane theory that any conscientious, well-respected publisher could see the
instant value of submitting a free copy of their cricketing literature for
instant, free promotion to a captive audience. Come on – try it – I meet at
least 21 other cricketers every Sunday – that’s nearly 250 prospective
purchasers every season! All for the cost price of one book! 3) Reevsie seemed genuinely interested when I
explained the concept in the pub. * * * So how does it work? I, or a guest-reviewer, read the book (or have read the book in the
past), give some brief comments and the much sought-after funnel rating – it’s as simple as
that. Books are rated on a Funnel Scale: 1
funnel is poor, whereas 5 funnels
would be excellent.
3 funnels – well worth picking up! ‘Titanick’ |
